- Ford have revealed the new Transit City. Built in partnership with Chinese manufacturer Jianling, the model sits on a unique platform not currently used elsewhere in Ford’s European range and offers a simple specification and is aimed specifically at last-mile delivery fleets and other city-based operators.
Power comes from a 56kWh battery paired with a 148bhp front-mounted electric motor. Ford is targeting a range of around 160 miles, aligning with data suggesting most electric van users cover fewer than 70 miles per day. Performance and efficiency are geared toward city use rather than long-distance capability
Three bodystyles will be available: L1H1 and L2H2 panel vans, alongside a chassis cab variant aimed at specialist conversions such as tippers and Luton vans. The smaller L1H1 offers a payload of 1,085kg and space for three Euro pallets, while the larger L2H2 increases payload to 1,275kg and provides up to 8.5 cubic metres of load volume
Inside, the Transit City features a single, well-equipped trim level designed for ease of use. Standard equipment includes a 12-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity, keyless start, air conditioning, a heated driver’s seat, parking sensors and a reversing camera. One-pedal driving is also included, along with service intervals of up to two years or 25,000 miles.
DC charging peaks at 87kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in around 33 minutes, while an 11kW three-phase onboard charger can complete the same charge in approximately four and a half hours
Orders are expected to open soon, with pricing positioned between the smaller Transit Courier and larger Transit Custom electric models. First customer deliveries are scheduled before the end of the year.
